Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need To Know

Common questions about booking, shift logistics, and insurance reimbursements.

What is the difference between a postpartum doula and a night nurse?
A baby nurse / night nurse focuses primarily on the newborn's medical care and feeding schedule. A postpartum doula focuses on the entire family unit — mother's physical recovery, emotional well-being, infant feeding guidance, partner support, and light meal prep. We care for both parent and child.
When should I book doula services during pregnancy?
Most families book during their second or early third trimester (around weeks 20–32). Because we limit the number of clients we take each month to ensure dedicated availability, booking early secures your spot around your estimated due date.
What does a typical overnight shift look like?
Overnight shifts usually run from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM (or 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM). Upon arrival, we do a brief 10-minute check-in, review baby's evening feedings, and take over nursery duties while you sleep. If breastfeeding, we bring baby to your bedside for feedings and handle all diaper changes and soothing back to sleep.
Are postpartum doula services covered by insurance or HSA/FSA?
Many clients successfully use their Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for postpartum doula care! We provide itemized receipts and a Letter of Medical Necessity template that you can submit to your benefits administrator for reimbursement.
How do payments, deposits, and retainers work?
A 30% non-refundable deposit secures your spot on our care calendar. The remaining balance is typically divided into two flexible payments or billed bi-weekly as hourly shifts are completed.
